I guess if you make your money off of other peoples addictions you tend to interfere with the cult making their money off of you, no, wait… Oh dang, I’m so confused.

EXCLUSIVE

THE Church of Scientology has lost its grip on James Packer.

The billionaire’s closest friends have revealed that he has quietly distanced himself from Scientology, labelled a cult by some former members, as it faces international controversy about its anti-psychiatry stance.

Members of Mr Packer’s inner circle have confirmed that the billionaire, who had ranked as Scientology’s wealthiest member in the world, was no longer undertaking Scientology courses and had slowly moved away from the religion, telling his closest friends he no longer “needs it”.

His office did not respond to the Herald’s calls yesterday.

Mr Packer was introduced to Scientology by his friend Tom Cruise in 2002. Friends say they remain close. They were most recently photographed dining together with their wives in Germany.

The religion entered Mr Packer’s realm at one of the lowest points in his personal and business life. He was overweight and depressed, his marriage to his first wife, Jodhi Meares, had ended and he was reeling from the humiliating and very public collapse of One.Tel, losing $350 million from the family business on the way.

He has spoken publicly of his involvement in the religion only once, telling The Australian Financial Review Magazine in 2006 that he spent an hour or so “every couple of days” practising Scientology. “I think it has been very good for me,” he said. “It has been helpful. I have some friends in Scientology that have been very supportive. But I think it’s just helped me have a better outlook on life.”

Thanks to his Hollywood confidant Cruise, Mr Packer and his fortune were embraced at Scientology’s highest levels.

A video from 2004 shows Mr Packer in the front row with the world’s most senior Scientologist at a convention in Los Angeles at which Tom Cruise was awarded a large medal before a roaring crowd.

However, Scientology caused discomfort within Mr Packer’s old circle of Sydney friends. When his lifelong friend David Gyngell quit Channel Nine in May 2005, it was Mr Packer who called in Scientologists to counsel the TV executive.

Out of respect for his friend, Mr Gyngell listened to them but politely said he did not need their help. In a blaze of negative publicity, he left the network his father, Bruce, had launched. Mr Gyngell has since returned to Nine and resumed his friendship with Mr Packer.

However, observers suggest Mr Packer’s expanding casino empire has presented issues difficult to reconcile with Scientologist beliefs.

Scientology’s founder, the science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard, denounced gambling. “An obsessive gambler is a psychotic just like a drug addict or an alcoholic,” Hubbard wrote in 1977.

A big thanks to The Sydney Morning Herald

I found an interesting history of the anarchical group known as Anonymous. It’s interesting to see how something that essentially started as a lark has turned into a force that scares both Scientology’s members and hierarchy equally.

The members are scared because they are simply cash cows for the cult leaders. And when the wolves circle, the cows are afraid. It’s part of their nature.

The cult leaders are scared because they know their flimsy house of cards is going to come crashing down upon them once the increased scrutiny leads to governmental examination. It’s all going to shit while they watch helplessly from their Ivory Towers.

But, of course it’s all a part of the Kosmic Karma Kredit Plan. They’ll be gettin’ what they’ve been sowin’.

The internet pranksters who started a war

They’ve become the sworn enemies of a controversial religion, famous for unsettling online video attacks and protesting en masse in creepy masks.

But the elusive internet group known as Anonymous didn’t start out with a concrete plan to bring down Scientology. Before they got serious, Anonymous members say, they were only in it for laughs.

In the years before “declaring war”, the group’s stock-in-trade was the creation of internet jokes revolving around, for instance, kitsch 1980s singer Rick Astley.

Anonymous’s transformation from pranksters with a tendency to overstep the mark to a group serious enough to scare Scientology is an intriguing story of the virtual world’s increasing influence on the “real” world.

Its critics accuse it of being a malevolent force. But Anonymous is not a group in the traditional sense — it has no leaders, no head office and no agreed-upon agenda.

It resides in anarchic, occasionally disturbing online communities that are also engaged and knowledgeable.

Anonymous can be cruel. Sometimes it’s a hotbed of creativity; at other times it’s simply inane. And it may be responsible for creating your favourite online in-joke.

PROJECT CHANOLOGY

When a video of Tom Cruise spruiking Scientology’s benefits was posted to YouTube in January this year, it quickly became an internet hit.

The video was intended for internal use, with Cruise manically explaining how Scientologists had “the ability to create new and better realities” for humanity. Scientologists alleged the video’s posting was a copyright violation and issued YouTube with a take-down notice. The website duly complied.

But members of internet communities such as”4chan” and “eBaum’s world” saw it as an attack on internet freedom and took exception.

As one Anonymous member (we named him Guy Fawkes, after the mask he insisted on wearing) told ninemsn: “[They] brought it to our attention, which was a big mistake.”

Anonymous launched a raid on Scientology’s website on January 21, overrunning the church’s servers and shutting them down.

On the same day, it released a now-infamous video threatening to systematically destroy Scientology. Featuring a distorted voice and sped-up stock footage, the video was disturbing enough to make people take notice. “Project Chanology” was born.

“Anonymous has … decided your organisation should be destroyed, for the good of your followers, for the good of mankind and for our own enjoyment,” the voice said.

“At first it was just this big joke, yeah, lulz, we’re going to protest against Scientology,” Guy Fawkes told ninemsn.

“Then people who actually had really good reasons to protest Scientology got involved and started educating us, at the same time as we were educating ourselves, and we discovered we had a pretty good case on our hands.”

By the time the group took to the streets on February 10, mainstream media outlets were all over the story. But while Anonymous has been widely discussed, there is still little understanding of its actual nature.

To get to the heart of Anonymous, you need to understand the culture that spawned it.

‘WE ARE LEGION’

A visit to 4chan.org’s /b/ forum is a baffling experience for the uninitiated. You could see an image of a dog wearing false teeth or a horribly mutilated dead body. You’ll definitely see hardcore pornography.

/b/ is an image board, where members (who call themselves b/tards) post pictures of any kind. Its only taboo is child pornography. Other users respond to these pictures - popular threads stay at the top.

If the origins of Anonymous can be traced to any one point, it’s this almost lawless online space, and other forums like it.

According to our Sydney-based Anon and b/tard Guy Fawkes, /b/’s raison d’etre is “memes”.

The concept of memes originates from the philosopher Richard Dawkins, and refers to units of information (for instance, a catchy tune) that propagate through a culture.

On the internet, the term has become shorthand for the jokes, videos and catchphrases that spread virally online.

Some memes that originated or were popularised on 4chan are now famous: for instance, LOLcats, Tay Zonday and Rickrolling (click here for explanation).

Even the term “Anonymous” is really a meme — a descriptive term for 4chan, 7chan and other communities, with its own mythology and aesthetic.

“Every time you’ve ever posted anything on the internet without stating your name, you’ve been Anonymous, and that’s all that defines Anonymous,” Guy says.

Anonymous “raids” targets that catch its attention. It may overload a website’s servers with a co-ordinated attack, or hack into a hapless individual’s MySpace page.

One such incident prompted Fox News’s local channel in Los Angeles to run a shamelessly sensational story on the group, which it called an “internet hate machine”.

The story alleged that Anonymous made credible threats to bomb football stadiums across the US. It even included footage of an exploding SUV to ram home the point.

While such portrayals are exaggerations, there’s no doubt that Anonymous can be nasty. It takes on big targets like Scientology, but it also mocks much weaker individuals (such as “Chin-Chan”, a girl with an unfortunately sunken chin).

Guy Fawkes compares the internet to the streets.

“I don’t think Anonymous sets out to be cruel to people … If you act like a douche bag out in the street, you’re going to get treated like a douche bag,” he says.

“[But] any illegal act acted out by someone on the internet is denounced by Anonymous … We’re not terrorists. We’re not bullies.”

‘HATE SPEAK’

Scientologists in Australia say they’ve been the victims of bomb threats, death threats, break-ins and vandalism since Anonymous began its campaign.

Vicki Dunstan, a spokeswoman for Scientology, said the initial attack in January left church members bewildered.

“There was no single person or organisation or anyone you could pin it to, it was just a generality. Then we became aware of the video on YouTube,” Ms Dunstan says.

“The sort of hate speak that you see coming out of Anonymous, it’s quite threatening, it’s alarming and it incites others to take action against the church.”

Ms Dunstan believes many Anonymous members are badly informed about Scientology.

“Some of their allegations are over four decades ago and the majority of these people have no first-hand experience of the church,” she said.

Anonymous members reject these accusations, and say their behaviour at the three Sydney protests so far has been beyond reproach.

There’s more than a whiff of paranoia in the air with both sides accusing their opponents of orchestrating smear campaigns and manufacturing evidence.

JUST ANOTHER MEME?

Scientologists are hopeful that, after almost four months, Anonymous is losing its stomach for a protracted battle.

“I think quite a lot of people who are in the group are just in it for the ‘lulz’, and they get recruited for it and it’s a bit of a joke,” Ms Dunstan says.

But Sydney Anon Guy Fawkes says he, for one, is in it for the long run.

“I think what is important about Anonymous is that it works, I don’t know how it works but it works,” he says.

“The light-hearted side of Anonymous is being left on the internet now, which I think is important. Because you can’t deal with a serious issue with a light heart.

“I don’t think we’re going to get bored any time soon … it’s going to go for a long time before it either fizzles out or ends abruptly.”

Anonymous’s next worldwide protest against Scientology, dubbed “Battletoad Earth: Operation Fairgame Stop”, will take place on May 10.

I guess we’ll see hundreds of cultists dying of cancer in the future. I wonder when it’ll be Tom’s turn and I wonder if anyone will bother going to his funeral.

How’s this for a Scientology horror story?

by SOPnewswire2Posted 4 hours, 29 minutes agoFor years, Scientology has run a refitted rustbucket as a kind of “cruise ship” where the upper level courses are given.

Scientologists pay thousands of dollars to sail on the Freewinds, based out of the Dutch Antilles. Last year, there was a report, including video, of trucks dumping waste from the Freewinds into Bonaire marshes.

However, that’s not the big news. This is:

“WILLEMSTAD: During refurbishing and reparatory work, which involved removing the ceiling and paneling on cruise ship Freewinds, blue asbestos was released and ended up in the ventilation system.Freewinds’ captain did not report this when its own personnel were working on the ship on the Mathey warf in Otrobanda. The Curacao Drydock Company (CDM), where the ship was taken for reparatory work on the hull, heard from the surveyor that there may be asbestos on the ship. The captain acknowledged the incident and said that after the incident Freewinds had some investigation done. Keeping the incident quiet became more noticeable when it turned out that the 40-year-old ship contained blue asbestos.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=287791

The question is whether or not the blue asbestos dust, which can cause cancer, can be removed from the ship. The CDM has stopped all work on the ship. The ship was sealed and isolated and experts will investigate and measure the presence of asbestos dust in the hull and surrounding areas. Commissioners Eugene Rhuggenaath (Economic Affairs) and Humphrey Davelaar (Public Health) said on Friday.

CDM interim director Frank Esser, deputy head of the Department of Labour Affairs Christiene van der Biezen were accompanied by two inspectors and head of the health Department Tico Ras. Samples taken from the paneling last week by inspectors that were sent to the Netherlands showed that they contained significant amounts of blue asbestos. After an extraordinary meeting, the Executive Council decided to inform the public in general about the incident to avoid rumors and panic.

The CDM personnel were also informed via the media because it was impossible to gather all the workers Friday evening to personally give them the information.”

Blue asbestos is a particularly deadly form of asbestos, and was used as insulation back before asbestos was known to cause mesothelioma and other lung problems.

Scientology officials were made aware of the problem back in 1987, and chose to ignore it. They have endangered the health of hundreds of people by their negligence.

Here is the affidavit of Lawrence Woodcraft, a former Scientologist and architect who was tasked with refitting the vessel as a cruise ship for Scientology.

http://www.lermanet.com/scientology/LawrenceWoodcraftAsbestos.htm

“One day Steve and I went into one of the cabins, which were in decrepit condition and he took a hammer and removed a section of paint from the outer steel wall, as he was curious about the construction. Under the layer of paint I noticed a powdery blue fibrous substance approximately 1 ½” thick between the paint and the steel wall. I told him I thought it was asbestos, which is a hazardous substance, and the fibers must not be allowed to go airborne.

This was brought to the attention of the executive team in charge of the redesign. Since Hubbard had nothing to say about blue asbestos, they left it in place.

And here is some promo about the Freewinds and its function in Scientology. It is a very “special” ship indeed! http://www.scientology.org/religion/groups/pg011.html

The festivities begin promptly at 11am.

It has been interesting to see how the carefully fabricated public facade of the cult is beginning to crumble under the increased scrutiny and pressure. Using lawyers and various court systems that have tried to strike out against their detractors. I just hope no one bothers to tell them that litigation is not the answer for a crude construct like $scientology. It just brings more attention to the fact that they eat their young.

Anonymous Continues Activism Against Scientology with ‘Operation: FairGameSTOP’

The group of Internet based activists, collectively known as Anonymous have continued their global awareness campaign against the Church of Scientology with their fourth rally in as many months. The Rally is this Saturday, May 10th at 11h00 am. In front of every Scientology Church, worldwide. The rally, dubbed ‘Operation: FairGameSTOP’, is designed to draw attention to the highly litigious nature of Scientology and their constant harassment of their detractors.

Under increasing pressure from Australian [1] and International [2] media, foreign governments [3] and the tide of public opinion, Scientology has gone on the attack, by launching spurious litigation against former Scientologists and individual members of Anonymous in the United States. Multiple governments globally [4] have become aware of the perverse tactics of Scientology, and are beginning to take positive steps in reducing the damage perpetrated by this cult. [5] The Australian state and Federal Government however, have remained silent on the matter, despite growing public concern.

The fight against Scientology has taken a tragic turn in the past month with the sad passing of Kaja Bordevich Ballo at the young age of 20. Kaja, the daughter of Norwegian MP Olav Gunnar Bello, was studying at a University in Niece when she decided to undertake a ‘Free Personality Test’ run by Scientology. On receiving the results of the test, which is specifically rigged to give a poor result, Kaja returned to her dorm and threw herself from the window “I believe Kaja would have been alive today if she had not gone to the Scientologists,” says friend and fellow student Henrik Minichen, 19 [6]

The first rally, affectionately dubbed as ‘Raids’, held on February 10th, attracted over 130 people from all walks of life in Perth and over 8,000 globally. The second Raid on March the 15th had over 100 Perth participants, with over 9,000 globally. Numbers continued strongly in April. The current wave of activism is expected to gain even more members as more become aware of the Church of Scientology’s policies through the dedicated efforts of the protesters to inform the public.

Scientology has been under increasing media criticism for their practices, specifically their front group ‘Narconon.’ The Church of Scientology is planning on opening a Narconon centre in Balcatta this year, which Anonymous opposes.

What is Operation:FairGameSTOP?
The purpose of Operation:FairgameSTOP otherwise known as ‘Battletoads Earth’, is to draw attention to the harassment that Scientology launches against critics. These attacks are many, including frivolous lawsuits, smear campaigns propagated by the church to silence critics and several suspect deaths. In one case, 9 members of the Church of Scientology, including Hubbard’s wife, were charged and imprisoned over the events concerning “Operation Freakout”, an attempt by Scientology to silence investigative journalist and Scientologist critic, Paulette Cooper. The Church’s members were indicted and imprisoned on charges of theft, burglary, conspiracy and other crimes. [7]

Forced Abortions One Of The Many Abuses From The Church Of Scientology

Last night I had the pleasure of interviewing Astra Woodcraft and her father Lawrence for our Glosslip Radio show on the BlogTalkRadio.com network. Both Astra and Lawrence were in the Church of Scientology’s most devout group called the Sea Organization and members who join must sign a billion-year contract. Being part of the Sea Org means devoting your life completely to Scientology and turning over total control to the Church. Apparently this also includes your reproductive life as well.

Astra told of being very young and having come down with a bad flu. As she lay feverish and alone she begged for a mother who refused to be by her daughter’s side because she had important work to do for the Church. Astra, too young to understand how “clearing a planet” could take precedent over her need to be comforted by her mother, was forced to endure terrible hardships that “celebrity” adherents of Scientology wouldn’t DARE dream of imposing on their own families.

Astra described a world where she was forced to get married at age 15 simply because she was seen kissing a fellow Scientology member outside her dorm: cramped living quarters she shared with fellow child members of the Sea Org. With Astra’s days filled with manual labor, a sparse diet consisting of rice and beans for every meal, and religious indoctrination classes; stealing a kiss must have seemed liked a welcome respite from Astra’s harsh reality.

So at age 15, Astra was sent to Las Vegas to be married to her first crush due to the strict rules of sexual relationships for those in the Sea Org. Making only $11 dollars a week and being forced to pay for all of life’s luxuries like soap, shampoo and any other toiletries left virtually nothing to be used in the way of birth control. The Church of Scientology did NOT provide the basics to these “forced couples” and now that she was married, Astra was a ticking time bomb for becoming pregnant.

As could be expected now at age 19 and already married for 4 years, Astra found herself pregnant. When she informed those at the Church of her pregnanct, she was presented with two choices; have an abortion, or be cut off from all of her family including her mother, sister, brother and husband. Astra’s father had already left he Sea Org and was quietly playing by the rules so as not to lose contact with his children. This was the life-line Astra needed to save her unborn child an unfair fate.

Astra left the Sea Org and was forced to endure endless months of security checks (sec checks) on an e-meter (a glorified lie detector test), her husband divorced her and she was disconnected from her mother, sister and brother. Astra was declared a suppressive person and ex-communicated from the Church. Oh and they tried to give her a bill for $89,000 for all her unpaid “auditing and sec check” sessions. A small price to pay for her daughter Kate, now the life and joy for Astra and grandfather Lawrence.

In many ways, Astra becoming pregnant with Kate wasn’t just a blessing of life’s greatest joy, a precious child, but also her escape out of a dangerous, oppressive, fascistic cult. The same can not be said for the van-loads of Sea Org girls carted to Planned Parenthood by the Church to have these “unwanted” pregnancies take care of. There’s no time for parenting when you have a planet to clear. The life of countless unborns is a small, insignificant price to pay when you are saving the world from the evils of psychiatry right?

I just want to state for the record, I am pro-Choice. This means I feel under pretty strict circumstances (no partial birth or late term abortions unless absolutely medically necessary to save a woman’s life) abortion should be legal, and with our own Supreme Court drawing the line as to when life begins at somewhere around 20 weeks, that should leave plenty of time to decide the best course of action for a woman to make about how to proceed with her pregnancy. Abortion should be your last choice, but it should be YOUR choice to make. It should never be forced. That’s even more wrong that banning abortions outright, and I feel *really* strongly about being pro-Choice.

Where’s the outrage? Where are these religious-right folks when it comes to a fellow “religion” not only condoning abortion, but practically forcing it on its members? Oh the hypocrisy is astounding, and the cowardice stifling.

I’m so sorry that this article kind of flew by under the radar last week. An article from 30 April 2008.

I can only guess that Katie is getting a little disillusioned with both her midget spouse and the cult he reveres. Subscribing to an archaic ‘I’ll OBEY my husband’ zombie-like mentality, Katie was dispatched to Gold Base, a Scientology boot camp in Hernet, California where she was subjected to 3 days of confessions and audits.

This little ‘vacation’ was to prepare her to move to New York for a spell to act on Broadway. What a sweet and thoughtful going away present from her husband, a little brainwash reinforcement. I know I’d appreciate such wonderful gesture.

Katie Holmes sent to Scientology boot camp

It’s Wednesday already, and what would a week be without some completely inane Katie Holmes story alleging that Tom Cruise is brainwashing her and keeping her locked in a pantry in the basement of his Switzerland manse?

Star says Katie recently “endured” a three-day retreat at Gold Base, some Scientology camp in Hernet, Calif. Actually, they call it a boot camp, but we’ve never been there, so we don’t know. It doesn’t sound like fun, though.

“It included various tests, confession sessions, tons of reading and physically challenging purification processes,” a Scientology source tells the glossy. “Tom insists that auditing and purification practices are incredibly beneficial to Scientologists at all levels.”

Apaprently these auditing sessions are a routine thing for her these days, since she’s going to be moving to New York for a spell to act on Broadway and needs to be chipped like a wayward cocker spaniel. The mag says some sessions have lasted 36 hours with hardly any sleep or food. It’s like watching War of the Worlds, complete with a ridiculous ending!

In our continued coverage of the astounding interview we did with ex-Scientologist and Sea Org member Marc Headley, he revealed David Miscavige, RTC President and head of the Church, was directly involved in the cover-up of Lisa McPherson’s death. Lisa, a young and pretty Scientologist whose death in 1995 rocked the Church of Scientology, has since become the poster child for the alleged abuses leveled at the Church.

The story of Lisa’s death is incredibly tragic. Not simply because we see the face of vibrant, beautiful young woman cut down it the prime of her life, but because for all intents and purposes, her death was completely preventable. Here’s a very brief summary in the interest of time, but I encourage anyone interested to do more research about the events surrounding Lisa’s death:

Police say McPherson, 36, entered the Fort Harrison Hotel, Scientology’s Clearwater headquarters, in November 1995. They say she was physically healthy but psychologically disturbed. Seventeen days later she died. An autopsy determined her death was due to a blood clot brought on by “severe dehydration” and “bed rest.” Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner Joan Wood has said the medical evidence indicates McPherson went without fluids for five to 10 days, possibly longer, and was comatose for at least 24 hours before she died. Bites on her hands were most likely made by cockroaches, Wood has said. (Tampa Tribune, June 1, 1997)

The Church of Scientology pulled out ALL the stops on this case to disassociate themselves with Lisa’s death, in the end the criminal charges of “homicide” were dropped and the case was settled out of court in a civil trial. But apparently, there’s more to this story than what we been led to believe. From Marc Headley’s interview:

DO: Do you think if enough Scientologists got together, I mean you and the staff and whoever, and came up with a Class Action Suit, do you think that would be an effective means, or do you think it’s still too crazy to do something like that?

MH: I don’t know, you gotta dig that the Church of Scientology, International Management sends about a hundred thousand dollars a week to the Office of Special Affairs to conduct legal battles, that is in-house attorneys, private investigators, whatever. That’s a lot of money. A hundred thousand dollars a week, so, that’s the kind of thing that I myself, when I hear people saying like that, “We’re gonna get a bunch of people together and we’re gonna do this”, I kind of think, ok, it seems plausible, if you had enough people, and it was an open and shut case, then maybe that would work. But at the same time, they killed a woman and got away with it.

DO: You’re talking about Lisa McPherson?

MH:Yeah, that’s a whole ‘nother interview. And I’ll probably have somebody call you. But I know people that were there in Clearwater that cleaned out different offices or rooms where she was in after that incident happened, so there would be zero evidence left behind on what happened. When that case was going on, David Miscavige was up day and night reading through medical books trying to come up with some way that the condition she had was totally disrelated to what they were subjecting her to. I mean, he was up day and night. He had medical books. He was on the internet. He wasn’t sleeping for weeks, trying to figure this out. He HIMSELF was doing that, because it was looking really, really bleak that this thing was not going to go their way. But somehow they managed to do whatever they did and settle, or whatever happened, and it went away.

DO: I heard a rumor Marc, and I don’t know… and I would love to have you back. Believe me.
We’ve got people clamoring for the information and they really want to know it and you seem to
have it. But I heard a rumor about Lisa, Lisa’s case, that people were speculating that she wasn’t
even actually held at Fort Harrison and maybe she was held at … I don’t know if it’s a Best Western
or at some other building that is kinda off-site there in Clearwater. And there’s rumors about a
locker or whatever that means. It’s obviously a rumor.

But they thought it was really odd that she had cockroach bites on her and this was supposed
to be like, a Five-Star hotel. There were no cockroaches in any of the other rooms. Why is it that
she’s in this Five-star whatever, it’s the mecca of Scientology, this high-end place for worldwide
people to come visit. She’s been bitten by bugs and she’s been dehydrated. And this whole
embolism thing sounds like … probably came from not being moved enough if you’re in a
vegetative, comatose state. Do you think there’s more to this story of legal actions than what we
heard in the news?

MH: Oh absolutely. Absolutely. Not to go off on a total wild thing but all of the people that were involved in that from RTC to the Flag Land Base Staff, the people that were auditing her, the people that were overseeing her auditing, every single one of those people that was anywhere involved with that: as soon as that case was settled, they were whisked off and made to disappear. The girl that was in Religious Technology Center in Clearwater was sent to Australia to do the Rehabilitation Project Force there. Australia! Because they wanted her far, far, far away, never to be seen or heard from again, because she had involvement and knew information regarding the Lisa McPherson case. Her name is Ricky Yensen, by the way. Or Ricky Galviotti, or Ricky Drake, whichever name she uses now.

There’s absolutely more than has been told and more that’s been heard that went on. I’ll have
this other fella that I know contact you, who was there in Clearwater and was working with Marty
Rathbun when this was going down. Marty Rathbun was in Religious Technology Center at the
time as well, he was like David’s henchman. Cleaning up all this messy stuff. So there’s absolutely
more more to this story.

DO: Do you think this case could be re-opened if somebody would be willing to come forward with
new details that there was a cover up involved?

MH: Well, it’s the same type of thing. You’ve got to get enough people that all know the same thing that are all willing to put their neck on the line and persevere through whatever the church is gonna throw at them. It’s that same kind of scenario.

Here’s an interesting story about Marty Rathbun and how his first assignment in the Sea Org was to protect a woman named Diane Colletto from her husband who she’d disconnected from. Diane’s husband, John Colletto had been forcibly sent to the RPF, or the Scientology prison work force, and he escaped because he wanted to see his wife. Due the disconnection policy of the Church, they were forbidden from speaking and John tracked down Diane who was with Marty Rathbun at the time and he watched her get shot down in cold blood. John tried to shoot Marty too, but was out of bullets. John Colletto was later found dead, having shot himself with the same gun.

After witnessing an incident like that, handling the Lisa McPherson case for David Miscavige must have been a trip down tulip lane.

The fact that the MV Freewinds is packed with blue asbestos is not unknown to me, nor to many people who follow such things. The asbestos was first noticed and reported to cult hierarchy back in 1987! And after 21 years nothing was done. That’s concern for human life, eh?

So, I wonder how often cancer was served along with apperatifs and fois gras at happy hour! If you have EVER been on that ship I would head out right now to get a full physical. While you are waiting for the test results you can call your lawyer and start a reckless endangerment suit.

What a bunch of fucktards to treat their ‘congregation’ and their crew like that!

Scientology Asbestos Ship Quarantined, Thousands May Have Suffered Exposure

Scientology officials insist its S.S. Asbestos will sail again.

Reports of cancer-causing particles aboard the 40-year-old Scientology cruise ship and floating fortress for the church’s secret OT VIII training floated around yesterday after a report by a St. Martins newspaper that the ship was sealed by authorities on the island of Curacao. Perhaps most interesting was the old interview with the ship’s architect Lawrence Woodcraft, originally aired by Xenu TV and reposted by the anti-Scientology Lisa McPherson Trust and others. Woodcraft recalls in a 2001 sworn statement discovering the blue asbestos in the walls of the cabin of the boat. If the report and Woodcraft’s claims that he notified his bosses of the asbestos as far back as 1987, it would mean that the ship’s operators have been potentially exposing people to the deadliest kind of asbestos for 21 years.

But a spokesperson for Scientology tells Radar the ship has not been locked up and is undergoing a planned overhaul, which will be finished on schedule.

The next cruise is scheduled for Thursday, May 8. “Inspections done on April 15, 2008 and April 28, 2008 again confirmed that the air quality is safe, in accordance with the standards set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the U.S. Clean Air Act,” church spokesman tells Radar via e-mail. The full e-mail is below.

First, however, it needs saying that the church has issued misleading, though technically true statements about its actions in the past. When Radar last asked about the church hand-delivering legal threats to members of Scientology antagonists Anonymous, the spokeswoman below denied that lawyers were delivering legal threats. But someone representing the firms hired by the church was delivering DVDs and legal letters. This time, Radar e-mailed the spokeswoman as soon as we learned of the report of the Freewinds being locked up. Karin Pouw objected to the lack of time we gave her to respond and to the nature of the questions. She went on to say that Freewinds inspects its air quality but does not say government authorities performed these inspectors. We’ve asked for clarification and proof of the inspection results and will report on the response.

Tyler Gray
Radar Magazine
Email: tgraydar@gmail.com

Dear Mr. Gray, Your questions contained allegations that are offensive and plain wrong. Further, you provided a one-hour deadline to answer your questions–a deadline which passed before your questions were even received by us.
_______________

The Freewinds regularly inspects the air quality on board and always meets or exceeds US standards. Inspections done on April 15, 2008 and April 28, 2008 again confirmed that the air quality is safe, in accordance with the standards set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the U.S. Clean Air Act.

The Freewinds is currently undergoing a complete refit, including renovations of all cabins and accommodations facilities as well as upgrading all navigational and nautical safety equipment to meet or exceed future maritime codes scheduled for implementation in the year 2010.
The true and accurate story is that the Freewinds is being restored to better than new condition and no expense has ever been spared in meeting the highest safety standards of any seagoing vessel.
The Captain of the Freewinds is a highly respected officer who is known for his competence and for his dedication to safety at sea. He and the Freewinds have received numerous commendations from port authorities and other ships for the help they extended to the islands in ports of call, as well as the training of maritime students in maritime safety for which the Freewinds is renowned.
The Freewinds will be completing its refit on schedule.
Regards,
